120 years of the famous Corniche d'Or

Inaugurated on 11th of April 1903, the Corniche d’Or is considered today as one of the most beautiful roads in Europe.

Abel Ballif, president of the Touring Club de France, initiated the construction of this emblematic and historic road, which goes through the Esterel mountains overlooking the Mediterranean sea and its wild rocky coves.
The Corniche d’Or passes through the different districts of Saint Raphaël such as Boulouris, Le Dramont, Agay and Anthéor to Le Trayas, ending in Théoule-sur-Mer.

Since 120 years, this road has inspired many artists and tourists with its magnificent landscapes and panoramas offering breathtaking views of the sea and the Estérel.

In April 1907, the designer of the Corniche d’Or launched a new road project with a length of 5 km connecting Théoule-sur-Mer to the RN 7 going to Cannes.
Abel Ballif, who lived in Théoule until the end of his life, remains an important person in the history of Théoule and the Côte d’Azur.
